We high school students face stress, anxiety, drama, and negativity from time to time. The Acts of Random Kindness Club strives to make high school a little more pleasant by conducting uplifting campaigns, activities, and projects, because it’s the little things in life that make a difference. Through ARK-tivities such as “ARK Loves You” posters for victims of bullying, Kindness Scavenger Hunt, Finals Week Care Packages, and Thank You Letters for janitors and faculty, ARK has brightened the school environment and has become a sprawling movement blossoming at over 40 high schools and counting across and beyond California.

Benefit Club

Want to model in a fashion show? Join Benefit Club to help in the annual Benefit Fashion Show, which takes place in February, to walk and support an organization of Benefit’s choice! The students at Saratoga High School host an annual Benefit Fashion Show which highlights local merchants, businesses, and clothing vendors. This year’s fashion show will be held March 4th at Saratoga High School (Main Gym). The Benefit Commission will use the proceeds to sponsor the Special Olympics, which hosts sports events for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Book Club

The Book Club reads a book a month for pleasure. Tastes in books range from Sci-Fi and Fantasy to Romance and realistic fiction, and yes, some classics. Titles are chosen by popular vote. If members can’t get to the reading any given month, it’s fine, we just ask that all members attend the meetings to help choose the next book and perhaps be inspired to read books they’ve missed, if the discussion by those who did read it sounds appealing.

The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) emphasizes high standards of scholarship and community service for California high school students. Founded in 1921, the California Scholarship Federation is the oldest scholarship institution in the state of California. Through service and awareness for needs of the community, CSF aspires to help students grow into serving leaders of all communities while awarding exemplary student leaders through tangible scholarships.
Chess Club

Chess Club is a meeting place for those who are interested in chess. Club members play chess, hang out, learn chess and hear about chess events from officers, and occasionally participate in chess activities like watching chess videos and playing chess variants/ blitz in the quad. We also recruit team members for the Saratoga Chess Team, which competes in the Santa Clara Valley Chess League and at state and national chess tournaments.

Chinese club has meetings every Wednesday/Thursday during lunch, depending on which day is a red day. We learn a little bit about Chinese culture every meeting. Any student is welcome because we want to spread Chinese culture around campus. We play fun games such as shuttlecocks, learn calligraphy, and have guest speakers from Chinese organizations. Sometimes we eat Chinese food like egg rolls and Tang yuan.

Drama Club is an open and welcoming environment for all students. It is designed for anyone interested in the performing arts. Haven’t ever been in a show before? This is a perfect opportunity to try it out! The drama family is always there to help you through the amazing process of putting on a show, whether it be acting in the show, stage managing a show, or teaching a show. Throughout the year, you can be involved in the Fall play, spring musical, and any of the available student productions. And if you’re not interested in involvement with the shows, Drama Club always makes available opportunities to watch professional local shows, and go on any of numerous field trips! EcoArt combines art and recycling to form a club that focuses on finding novel ways to repurpose old items. We’ve turned items like bottle caps, plastic bags, and glass bottles into magnets, bracelets, and candle holders. We believe that reusing old items can conserve resources and make our planet a better place environmentally, and joining EcoArt is one way of doing so.

FBLA is a national vocational student organization for students in high schools who are interested in business or business education careers. It helps students develop leadership abilities, prepares them for entry into a business-related occupations, and offers a setting where members compete at regional, state and national levels in business and technology curriculum. The club focuses mostly on competitions and networking, enabling students to both illustrate their business prowess and social skills.

French Club is open to all students with an interest in French culture. Knowledge of the French language is not required, but many members do speak French. We celebrate and learn about French culture through activities such as celebrating holidays, sampling French food, field trips, and guest speakers. We will also focus on fundraising activities for charities that benefit people in need in the francophone world.

Glee Club is dedicated to performing in places where entertainment may not always be available, such as hospitals, and to raising money for various charities. Because the club wants to be as inclusive as possible, anyone interested in influencing the community and making people smile is welcome to join!
Global Health Club

If you are interested in the medical field, then this club is for you! Global Health Club will be run under the close guidance of Stanford Clinical Professor Evaleen Jones. Members will gain experience in medicine through clinic and hospital shadowing, interactive guest speakers from the medical field, and a research project that aims to improve an aspect of the local community. In addition, Dr. Jones will be personally coaching members on how to balance and train their minds to maximize their academic potential. Club members will also grow their leadership skills and explore their passions while being mentored by Professor Jones and a variety of medical professionals and professors.

The purpose of Go Club is to introduce a highly strategic game that embodies thousands of years of asian culture. Unlike any other board game, Go relies a lot on an individual’s intuition. The club gives a lot of opportunities in encountering new players – eager to appreciate the game for its history. The essence lies beyond the boundaries of the board to prove Go to be not only a competition, but a matter of etiquette that defines the asian culture. Between two players are stones that can tell more than what our mouths can ever achieve.
Helping Hands

As Saratoga students, we have the resources we need for a great education can therefore lend a helping hand to others. Helping Hands is a peer tutoring club where students at Saratoga High tutor those in the community who cannot or are scared to get the help they need. We believe that students know how to help other students best because they have gone through the same experience. We also believe that students end up learning more when they assume the role of a teacher. If you have the desire to spread your knowledge and help your fellow peers, this is the club for you!
HERO Club

HERO Club is a service organization that seeks to make a positive impact in local areas, particularly San Jose. We will manage all the operations of providing support and care to those who need it by having separate branches of fundraising, supplies, production, and delivery. Our club will independently gather the resources needed to make care packages, assemble them, and deliver them to the homeless in San Jose and other areas. We document and share our experiences to also inspire others to do the same.
Impact Christian Club

Impact Christian Club of Saratoga High School in Saratoga, California is a student-led Christian religious group that meets every week at lunchtime. Members consist mostly of students, who are of many different backgrounds. The club’s purpose is to gather all who are willing to experience God and minister to others in a safe and friendly community environment at school. The club aims to equip members to be spiritually effective Christians so that they may be a living testimony. Prospective members who are curious about the beliefs of Christianity are encouraged to join regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, belief system, etc. The club is also a part of the coalition of other Christian clubs associated with the FUHSD schools.
Indian Cultural Awareness Club

The Indian Cultural Awareness Club welcomes all SHS students to share their love for dance, music, and Indian Culture. The club’s main event of the year is Bombay in the Bay, a student-run dance show which includes several genres of Indian dance such as fusion, classical, bhangra, as well as a singing act. Students from all grades have the opportunity to choreograph and dance in their respective grade dances and more. All proceeds benefit a charity based in India of the club’s choosing. After Bombay in the Bay 2017, the club was able to donate over $10,500 to Parikrma, an organization that works to improve education in India. Bombay in the Bay is a great way for students to express themselves while also making a difference in the lives of others.

Interact club is a service club for youth ages 12 to 18 and is part of Rotary International, the world’s first service club organization. Our mission is to promote toleration and understanding between students of ALL different faiths in a time where it is most needed. In our meetings, we discuss and debate various topics and issues that are relavent to religion in today’s society and occassionally hold guest speakers of various faiths. We also serve IN N OUT! So come and stop by and express what you believe!

Junior State of America

JSA is geared towards promoting more SHS youth participation in the local politics of Saratoga. We organize events, collaborate with the city council, and draft legislative bills as part of getting involved in the community. We teach new members vital skills of communication and eliminate any shyness through real-life experiences of collecting money from businesses and reaching out to organizations. There are two statewide JSA meetings in a year, where students from all Northern California schools congregate in a hotel to discuss current issues and debate hot topics. Similarly, students in JSA get to voice their opinions on a variety of problems, either local or national. We talk about the most recent news in the world and take turns leading lively political discussions.
Korean Culture Club

We are not a club appealing to only Koreans; rather, we are an open and diverse community for anyone interested in enjoying and learning about Korean culture. We play fun traditional Korean games, eat Korean snacks, and watch videos on various aspects of Korean culture, such as shopping, Kpop, dance and music, and dramas. We also organize schoolwide events like Lunar New Year and participate in public events like Club Rush and Club Day, selling traditional Korean foods like Korean chicken, among other foods.
Light Music Club

To create a community for students who play instruments not typically addressed in traditional band/orchestra setting (concert drums, guitar, etc.) but also to account for the lack of modern/popular music in the music program as opposed to classical/jazz. We believe that playing songs that people are into or enjoy can heighten one’s love of music further and spark interest, although many people tend to ignore the possibility.
Linguistic Club

Interested in learning a new language, or learning about how language is perceived, expressed, and evolves over time? Come join us at Linguistics club! At each meeting we plan to showcase different cultures and languages through presentations, student and faculty guest speakers, fun and interactive activities, and food! We’ll also connect our presentations of language and culture to our ongoing study of IPA–the International Phonetic Alphabet (that weird alphabet that you sometimes see in dictionaries to help sound words out). Linguists use it for exactly that–transcribing language phonetically. In a few months, you can learn to write like a professional linguist! Overall, our goal is to showcase the diversity on our campus, to make SHS more culturally aware, and to help students get excited about the study of language.
Marine Bio Club

The marine biology club explores life in the oceans: 75% of our world. We strive to learn new facts and conserve their beauty through meetings, dissections, and trips that help us discover the endless mystery of the ocean.
Math Club

Toga Math Club aims to provide an environment conducive to learning mathematics that goes well beyond the bounds of classroom material. Activities include discussion and presentation of interesting math problems/topics and preparation for various math contests. If you are a self-driven and motivated mathlete who loves tackling challenging problems, this is the place for you.
MIT Launch/Entrepreneur Club

MIT Launch has adapted its summer program materials to provide high schools part of the Launch experience during the school year through a school club. Club members start a company in teams, learning the entrepreneurial skill set and mindset by starting, growing, and experiencing the adversities of founding a company. Throughout the year, club members will work on their companies, and will make a final pitch video detailing their progress in the end of the school year. Video finalists selected by the Martin Trust Center will receive mentorship and pitch at MIT on May 2.

Mock Trial Club is a competitive team in which students act as attorney’s, witnesses, and other court room officers where they argue a case before a real judge. Students learn the formalities of the courtroom as well as practice the techniques of attorneys and witnesses. The will hold auditions in the fall and practice in the fall and winter every Tuesday night. January is the month of scrimmages and the competition at the Superior Court in San Jose.
Model UN

Model UN is a forum for debating world problems, historical and present. The club develops public speaking, problem solving, and negotiating skills and allows members to take on the stance of a country on global issues. We attend conferences at Santa Teresa High School, Stanford University, and we also collaborate with Lynbrook MUN. If you have strong political opinions, like to debate, or want to be a part of an internationally recognized community, please join us!
MSET (Robotics)

The Mechanical Science and Engineering Team (MSET) is a FIRST robotics club that competes in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and the First Robotics Competition (FRC). The FTC component of M-SET consists of 4 teams, each with approximately 15 students. The FRC component of M-SET consists of 1 team, with approximately 50 students. FTC competes with smaller robots built from kits starting in September, while FRC robots are larger and are built from completely custom parts starting in January. We promote STEM education, teaching students valuable lessons about the design process, prototyping, CAD, manufacturing, and documentation, but we also emphasize non-technical skills such as grant writing, public speaking, time management, and teamwork. Even if you have absolutely no idea where to start or what you’re interested in, M-SET has a place for you.

Mystery Club is a club for people who love mysteries of all types, whether it be reading mystery novels, watching mystery television shows (Sherlock!) or solving our own mystery lunches.
Psychology Club

During our meetings, we hold lectures and presentations on specific sections of psychology to further educate members on the subject. Often, Ted Talks and educational videos or documentaries will also be featured. This club is an excellent way to learn more about psychology and interact with other interested students.

Additionally we aim to educate members and non-members about topics that they may have heard about, but are not intimately acquainted. This allows students to go out into the world and make substantive connections with others.

STEAM Club focuses on outreach activities for children. For our club meetings we try out fun hands-on activities related to STEM and Art! During the course of the year we hold events at nearby libraries and museums to provide children with engaging STEAM activities. Each member of our club will gain certificates from the American Chemical Society at the end of the year along with membership cards.

Speech and Debate is made of many different events where our speech and debaters compete in a state and national level. Our debaters build public speaking and debate skills that stay with them for a lifetime. Speech and debate at Saratoga has a long legacy of success at the prestigious state and national tournaments and students are always willing to help new members learn more about the events and have fun! We offer 5 debate events and 10 speech events all unique and rewarding. Coaches are present to assist in discussions, lectures, practices, and tournaments. Local and out of state tournaments are held weekends and are optional. Leadership positions are available.
Super Smash Brothers Club

The Super Smash Brothers Club is for all players who wish to play, compete, and have fun together. We host casual and tournament matches where people can earn prizes and socialize with others who share an interest in super smash brothers.
Team HBV

Team HBV is dedicated to spreading awareness about the existence and adverse effects of the Hepatitis B Virus, one of the major causes of liver cancer. Because symptoms of the virus only show when it is too late, Team HBV advocates early prevention techniques, such as getting a free clinical checkup, to halt the progress of the virus. We often have joint events with Stanford and attend the Fall Leadership Conference there in the fall. At the end of the year, our profits from fundraising go to the Asian Liver Center at Stanford.

Ultimate Frisbee Club is dedicated to learn all about the sport of Ultimate. We learn and practice new strategies and also compete in Bay Area Youth Tournaments weekly in the spring. Ultimate is a fun and easy to pick up game that anyone can play. Our goal is to spread the knowledge of the sport and to have fun competing among friends.
UNICEF

UNICEF Club serves as an extension of the world-renowned UNICEF organization, whose main goal is to raise the standard of living in impoverished and war-torn countries around the world. The club hosts fundraisers and other events with the purpose of informing the public of our mission and, of course, collecting critical supplies and money to go to people in need. We provide students an opportunity to break out of the “Saratoga bubble” by reaching out to the global community in a mutually beneficial fashion, giving students a deeper understanding of the world and appreciation of the means by which they live, all the while allowing them to volunteer for and contribute to the greater good.

WiSTEM is a new club at SHS that empowers the women of Saratoga High to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Math related fields further. Although it may not show at Saratoga, women are a minority in STEM fields. Our club helps broaden girls’ horizons by visiting famous universities and labs, attending scientific lectures, volunteering at under-privileged science schools, helping them find summer internships, and much much more.

This club meets mainly on Sunday mornings to develop a code based program simulation that runs code in space! Zero is a double entendre here. It means two things: zero gravity and zero hardware!
